Decaleurs
TAUGHT BY StarMichael Bowman
Coming summer 2025
Custom Rack Building #2; Decaleurs.
Classes will be one to two students and take about 15-25 hours. Traditionally Classes are 4-6 hours or so per day for a week. But for those living in Portland or wanting to spend more time here we can slow the classes down. Or even do just weekends or otherwise work around your schedule.
Classes will include a full syllabus, and all materials are included. Materials can be upgraded for extra. Class will include an overview of what it takes to build a Decaleur, design, and tube selection. And a comprehensive resources guide. You will walk away with the knowledge you need to get started collecting tools and parts to begin building at home! If you want, no pressure.
Previous experience is required! Decaleurs are really a type or racks, even more complex and small than traditional racks. My rack building course is required first before the decaleur class. Because in the rack building class we practice brazing joints and cut them in half to see how brazing flows and works. That knowledge and experience is needed before beginning this class. We will do a little overview and practice too, but not as much as the regular rack class. I will make a decaleur right alongside you to demonstrate each step in the process and help guide you along. This class would be great to take back-to-back with the Rack Building class.
This class is great for someone that wants to learn the basics, or just know how it’s done and wants a cool experience, and a custom decaleur you made to use on your bike.
You’re first decaleur is going to be a little weird and wonky. It’s going to have character and quirks! It’s going to be hand made by you and one of a kind!
Basic classic stem mount or head set mount is recommended. If you’ve got something else in mind and done tons of research and have an idea about design and angles and clearance, we can probably do that, but only if it makes sense to me and will work and not take us way over on time.
This class is cheaper than the Rack Class as it needs to cover less and spend less time practicing. It can be taken over and over again as you see fit.
