Threadless Decaleurs
Decaleurs for modern removable face plate stems! Yes! Is it easy, no! But it’s doable. Here a few of my favorite I’ve done.
The first is for a cool Elephant bike a bike mechanic I knew needed. I made a small custom plate out of some flat 4130 steel strap. drilled the holes at the same width as the stem bolts and used small spacers to space it off the stem face.
The rest is pretty straight forward as far as handmade Decaleurs go! A little more 4130 steel strap for the bag mounting side, and some thin hollow 4130 tubing for the connections. Came out pretty clean and lean!
The second set of picks is my “Prototype” Threadless Decaleur. It made using some fun quick release key chains, heavily modified with stainless blind water bottle bosses, and stainless M5 bolts with their heads removed. Making it so one side of the quick release replaces two of the stem bolt and the other side bolts to the decaleurs bag mount. I worked with Frame Builder Supply and had custom polished stainless bag side mounts water jet cut. the holes are ovalized slots so that the quick release can slide around and fit just about any threadless stem! These are pretty cool, and worked fairly well. But the key chains rattle a lot, and eventually wear out. It’s been years since I made a batch of these, but may again one day if there’s some interest!
