Frame Repair

Here’s a cool old Claude Butler that’s been coming to me for years. I’ve done builds, mods and now a frame repair at every shop I’ve owned over the last few decades.

This time both seat stays cracked all the way through near the seat lug. So I ordered up some seat stay plugs and, cut the tubes below the brakes and filed them flat. Then inserted the plugs, bent the tips to fit around the seat lug. Then brazed the whole thing up!

I even did a YouTube video on it! Check it out!

Here we have some pictures of a few different fun repairs I’ve done. The first being a vintage much beloved track frame. The cracks in the seat stays were pretty low and just cutting them below the crack and adding seat stay plugs. So I went ahead and made external caps from scratch! I cut some tubes, shaped and drilled cool holes in them and brazed on little caps. Then silvered the whole thing on like lugs. I think they came out pretty cool. Hope the bike is still on the road!

Then we have a few bikes that had their seat binder bolts snap off. One of them mid tour! She took it to the closest shop and they sent her my way. I had the other side off, cleaned up and a new binder brazed on in under an hour and she was back on her way!

Then we have a nice old bike with French Huret dropouts. Someone decided to hacksaw the derailleur hanger off for one reason or another, so I cut one off a new drop out and brazed it on!

Lastly we have a school friend that had her shifter boss pop off. It was barely brazed on 40 years ago or so. I was shocked it made it so long. I brazed a new on one, reattached the shifter and she was on her way in about half an hour!
